Overview
The United States of America is the fourth largets country in the world.
Only China, Russia, and Canada are lager.

In
1884 the U.S.became the second country to establish a football association
after England.

Reaching the
semi-finals of the first World Cup in 1930 and beating England 1-0
in the 1950.

After many attempts to form a long-term league, the North American Soccer
League finally reached popularity in the 1970s behind giants as Pele,
Johan Cruyff, and Franz Beckenbauer. By the mid-80s, the league folded
largely due to over-extension and changing attendance patterns.

The United States became
the second North American nation to host a World Cup in 1994 which turned
out to be a huge popular and financial success.

The 1998 FIFA
World Cup France, was a disappointment after U.S. finished last,
but it is a mark of how far soccer has come in America that the team qualified
to participate in their fourth straight WorldCup in Korea/Japan.
