History-
Japan is an Asian country with
proud traditions and a highly sophisticated culture spanning centuries.
Its island formation has made it an oftentimes isolated and imperialistic
country, with a dislike for foreigners, as well as a country dependent
on imports and exports. A country of extreme contrasts, Japan is known
for tea gardens and Geisha girls to cutting edge technology and, in the
last century, a ruthless and fanatical military. The military was responsible
for Japan’s entry into World War II and her alliance with the Axis powers.
On December 7, 1942, following America’s termination of exports to Japan,
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, signaling the start of America’s entry into
World War II and the beginning of the end for Japan’s military and expansionist
policies. The Asian war was fought on many fronts in Southeast Asia, through
the Aleutian Islands to the Solomon Islands and the Philippines. Despite
many successes, Japan began to lose the war, but was determined to fight
until every man, woman, and child in Japan was dead as the Japanese culture
was hostile to surrender. As a result, atomic bombs were dropped on Japan
in order to bring the war to closure. Otherwise, Japan would never have
surrendered and many Americans would have unnecessarily been killed in
the inevitable invasion of Japan. Following the surrender, for the
first time in her history, foreigners occupied Japan. The country was disarmed.
Economic and social reforms were instituted, leading to a stronger economy
and ultimately, to Japan’s position in the world as a leader in the technological
revolution.

Suspected Ticket Tout Deported
By Yomiuri Shimbun
Daily Yomiuri
A man was detained at Tokyo Immigration Bureau’s
Narita Airport who had on himself 175 tickets to the World Cup. The man
was from Britain and was 37 years old. The 175 tickets he had with were
genuine tickets. Most of the Tickets that he possessed were for Britain’s
matches in the World Cup. All of this happened on Wednesday. Japan said
this man was not a hooligan. He was not allowed to enter the country.
The man did not say how he was going to use the
tickets and was deported. The man’s name was on a list given to Japan by
Britain, which banned him from traveling to Japan due to past convictions.
They will not say his name due to his protection of privacy. In the end
he was sent back to Britain.
In my view I have 2 sides to the story. First
I see why Japan deported him. He was there illegally. They also thought
that he was a ticket tout. Also he had no reason to be there, cause Britain
banned him from going there. If I were in Japan I more than likely would
have been a little worried like they were.
But I disagree with deporting him. There is no
factual proof he was a ticket tout. Also he was probably just there for
some fun and to see his favorite team win. But since he was not supposed
to be there he had to leave. Many people are still wondering if he had
stayed what he would of done with the tickets.
