Pages
Students in all classes will complete an
economic and historical examination of one of the 32 countries in the 2002
World Cup, the world's most popular sporting event. This page serves as
a guide for that project, which is to be completed by June 4 for ALL
CLASSES. In order to complete this project, you will spend the rest
of the year in class on it, and assign yourself homework. All
information about your project should be kept in your notebook.
Try the World
Cup Challenge with ESPN and Soccernet.com and win prizes. Sign on as
a new member (select Teen). After registration, click "Create your
entry" and join the group HHS Soccer, and use jenkins as the password.
We have our own message board, and we can see who in all the classes can pick
the best schedule. Other Hammond teachers may join as well. Remember,
all rules of Hammond High apply to activities online within this project.
Take a look at the cool
stadiums the games will be played in. Also, the TV
schedule for all games is available online.

Guidelines
The following requirements should be met for the
project.
The project must

show outstanding individual effort on the
part of the student
-

in the World Cup, focusing on its history and economic conditions
-
be a webpage or series of webpages, with
-
at least three images, with links to
their original internet location (or a referenced source if scanned
in)
-
at least four links to webpages used,
including an online news source for that country
-
the start page named index.htm
-
include a section for history, including

previous event in its history

-
include a section for the people of the
country, including population, ethnic groups, languages, religions, and
literacy rates
-
include a current event for a news article
involving that country's economics, politics, or technology (please see me
if you can not find an article at the newspaper site listed below or from
other sources)
-
include a Star Player profile and
prediction for their success in the World Cup
-
include the Finals group, dates, and
opponents for your team in the first round of the finals
Advanced projects will include the above, and
at least one chart or graph, a hand-drawn or computer generated image,
additional information within the categories above
The project must be turned in to me no later
than June 4. I will accept floppy disks, Zip disks, or CD-Rs for the
projects. You may also save the files to a computer in my room by the
due date. I will return all disks to owners on the day of the
exam. Webpage files must be saved as .htm or .html files. You may
use Netscape Communicator, Word, or Frontpage to make your webpages. We
will use Netscape Communicator during class.
Example
As an example, I have created a webpage for the
country of Ghana, which did not make it into the finals from the Confederation
of African Football (CAF). In the preliminaries for the World Cup, Ghana
failed to advance to the finals of the CAF, going 3-2-3 (Win, Ties, Losses) in
Group B of five groups. Click here for the Ghana
report.
Links
Use these links when studying your country. Be
sure to reference any website you used for your project. Link the title
of the page from your own page so other internet users can find out more
information.
