History
Cameroon's earliest people to live on the land were
the Bantu speaking people. Carvings and stone tools indicate that prehistoric
people lived in Cameroon. In the 900's) the sao people settled near
lake Chad. The Bamileke and the Bassa reached Cameroon in the 1400's. Also,
in the late 1400's,
Portuguese explorers were the first europeans to reach cameroon. The
portuguese named the country Camaroes, which means shrimp. the Portuguese
found small crayfish that resembled shrimp, in the wouri river. In 1858,
british missionaries created the first european settlement, Victoria, at
the base of Mt. Cameroon
During the late 1800's, the british, french, and
germans struggled for control over cameroon. A local Douala chief signed
a treaty with germany, which made cameroon a german protected state (1884).
Germany lost control of cameroon to britain and france during WWI. In 1922,
Britain and france divided it into two sections. Finally, Cameroon
was allowed independence by both countries in 1946. But the country was
still divided, one section for france and one section divided into two
parts for Britain.
In 1960, French cameroon became known as the
republic of cameroon (ROC). french cameroon gave gave british cameroon
a choice to join the ROC or to become a part of neighboring nigeria. the
northern part decided to join nigeria and the southern part decided to
join ROC. In May1972, cameroon adopted a new constitution that united the
east and west cameroon.

Current Event
article title: Ireland-Cameroon
author: fifaworldcup.com
date: May 30, 2002
summary: In this
article, there are descriptions of both the ireland team's and the Cameroon
team's success. Cameroon won the african cup of nations two consecutive
times. Cameroon, also, won the olympic gold medal. Ireland battled through
a qualifying group and reached the quarter finals at the 1990 Fifa world
cup Italy. The article also stated that Mick McCarthy left the Irish team.
Finally, they had quotes from players and coaches saying how they felt
about other teams.
opinion: The article,
in my perspective, lacked many details and information. They didn't go
into any faults either of the teams have. i think that the author may have
tried too hard to leave opinions out, which in turn, didn't give any relevant
information. "Ireland-Cameroon" had about three quotes. I believe
these quotes were extremely unimportant. In my opinion, that wasn't news,
that was more of a profile.
The article could have added
faults of both teams, more current events that have happened to the team,
and information on when and if players will return to the team. Over all,
I thought watching an apple brown was more interesting than "Ireland-Cameroon."
