The Vietnam War is a military conflict between South Vietnamese government and Communist government. The south was supported by the United States and the communist were supported by north Vietnam. This was initially a civil war aimed at the reunification of Vietnam. The US became involved in the early 1960's and by 1969 they had more then 550,000 troops in South Vietnam. The North were backed up by the USSR and China. In late 1960's conflict developed in US because their withdraw of troops. Peace negotiations began in 1969 and a peace treaty was signed in January 1973. The treaty involved South Vietnam, United States, North Vietnam, and the Communist government in South Vietnam. The fighting continued in May of 1975 between the South Vietnamese and the Communist. The south eventually fell to the communist.
