Why did Jeannie
become a cyclist?
Jeannie’s mother was a gym teacher and
encouraged her to participate in sports. Thought high school Jeannie fell in
love with competitive sports. Her first love was skiing. Jeannie’s school had a
cycling team but girls were not allowed to participate. Jeannie got her first
interest in the sport of cycling in 1979 when she discovered that the World
Cycling Championships were being held in her hometown of Sallanches, France in
1980. Jeannie decided that cycling was her vocation when she went on to win
first place in the World Cycling Championships in 1980.
What are
Jeannie’s major accomplishments?
In August of 1996 Jeannie won an Olympic
gold medal in road racing. In October
of 1996 Jeannie won an Olympic silver medal in road racing as well.
Later in October of 1996 Jeannie broke the world hour mile of 48.159
kms. Her new record is 45.094 kms.
Over the years Jeannie has acquired 11 world titles and 25 Olympic and
World Champion podium finishes.
In Jeannie’s
mind what is her greatest victory?
Jeannie came in a
close second in the 1985 Tour de France to Italy’s Marcia Canins. The following
year Jeannie came in second again to Canins in the Tour de France. In 1987
Jeannie defeated Canins for her first time first place win in the Tour de
France.
What are
Jeannine’s future plans?
Jeannie would like
to win more Olympic gold. In her personal life Jeannie has some large plans. Jeannie
would like to write memoirs in the form of selected anecdotes (comedic
writings). Jeannie would also like to have a baby.
