What is Cuba's Relation With the United States?
Cuba has foreign affairs with many countries. The most interesting being the United States because they are only ninety miles off the coast of Florida, it makes for an exciting course of events. However, Cuba doesn’t have a good relationship with the Americans. One example of this is that every year the United States government sends a check over to Cuba for its naval base at Guantanamo Bay. The next thing to happen every year is there is a small ceremony where Castro rips the check into shreds. Many Americans don’t like Cuba because they remember when they had to hide under desks during the Cuban Missile Crisis during air raid drills. Many people blame Castro for this and they hate him for it. Others don’t like Cuba because they don’t like the idea of having a communist society less than one hundred miles away. Other Americans don’t like Cuba because of the prisons they have inside of their boarders. The prisons are sub-human, they are infested with hepatitis, tuberculosis, mange, lice, and other diseases flourish without treatment while prisons are filled to double or triple capacity. Then on top of this they won’t let the international Red Cross inside of the prison walls to help the dying prisoners. A common Cuban Norma Ruiz is quoted on commenting about the inadequate living conditions in Cuba. She said, “I know who is to blame. The Americans. They cause all of this.” This is just one of the many angry Cubans. This is why they have a bad image with the Americans.
