Cricket is a very old
sport that originated in Great Britain during the Middle Ages. One
theory on how it started is that English sheperds started the game.
One sheperd would stand in front of the wicket gate to the sheep pen, and
another would bowl a stone at him. The first sheperd would then try
to hit the stone with his crook. Another theory is that cricket was
derived from club-ball, a game played in church yards. The first
reference to cricket being played was in 1300 when Prince Edward played
his friend Piers Gaveston. The first cricket match was in Kent in
1646, and the earliest photographs of cricket were taken in 1857.
Today, cricket has spread around the world and is very popular wherever
it is played.
