What are the Costs and Benefits

of Rainforest Deforestation?

By Lauren Jurd and Kevin Rose

Deforestation is when trees or forests are cut down and/or cleared away. Rainforest deforestation is when the rain forest is cut or cleared away.  There are many different costs and benefits of rainforest deforestation, which causes many different opinions and eventually controversy to arise. So what if the rainforest is cleared away?  This common question is asked by many people who do not know how important rainforests are to human existence.   However, some people against rainforest deforestation do not realize that at the same time there are many benefits of ranforest deforestation.

This page places a special focus on the Amazon rainforest.  Over the years more than 10% of the Amazon rainforest has been destroyed. The Amazon rainforest contains a wider variety of plant and animal life than any other place in the world, with more than tens of thousands of different plant species living there. There has been much controversy over the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
